Si vous aimez la musique brésilienne sobre, sensible et sensuelle, jetez vous sur cet album. Avec sa superbe voix chaude, charmante, envoûtante, Caetano Veloso nous entraîne vers des univers où règne la douceur et la mélancolie. Il semblerait que Noites Do Norte soit un témoignage sur l'esclavagisme (et plus particulièrement sur l'héritage culturel du Brésil en tant que nation fondée sur une économie esclavagiste). Entre les très belles lignes mélodiques, il est ressenti une légère tristesse et de la noirceur, mais qui jamais ne se transforment en déprime. C'est un très joli opus tout en retenue, une sorte de MPB / Bossa Nova lente et introvertie, mais assez puissante que délivre Caetano Veloso. Seul bémol, pour les puristes amoureux du compositeur, pour les amateurs du style "Pop" de Caetano Veloso, Noites Do Norte peut sembler sur le long terme quelque peu trop langoureux, manquant un brin d'énergie par moment (à l'image du très beau "Meu Rio". Une curiosité sur cet album, l'hommage à Raul Seixas via la chanson "Rock'n'Raul"
