David Patrick Wilcox (born March 9, 1958) is an American folk musician and singer-songwriter guitarist. He has been active in the music business since the late 1980s. Wilcox was born in Mentor, Ohio, and attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1976, where he began learning guitar. He later transferred to Warren Wilson College in North Carolina in 1981 and graduated in 1985. Wilcox appeared regularly at a Black Mountain, North Carolina nightclub called McDibbs.

David Wilcox returns with his first album in four years. The View From The Edge. It’s about feeling very much alive. This is a collection of ancient mystic poems, drawn from across the world's major faith traditions, made into songs by David Wilcox and Nance Pettit. This project benefits the Partners in Conflict and Partners in Peacebuilding Project at The Center for International Development and Conflict Management, based out of the University of Maryland. The Very Best of David Wilcox. Some people look at a glass and say it's half empty. David Wilcox looks at a glass and wonders about the people who left their fingerprints on it, the milestones they were toasting, the breakups they were mourning.

David Wilcox is one of America's best singer-songwriter guitarists. Not only has he mastered the guitar with excellent open-tunings and beautiful strums and creative arpeggios, but he crafts beautiful stories and lyrics which are memorable and intelligent. He injects surprise, so an intelligent listener who, when hearing his songs for the first time, will be constantly wondering where each song is leading, and pleasantly surprised when the twists and turns occur. He writes with a style perhaps called creative ambiguity - letting one image do the work of several.

I remember listening to David Wilcox in a small cafe, and he made it seem like a private concert. It was an intimate setting where his songs were entwined with his words and explanations, and he would occasionally stop to listen to the train that was rumbling by, and tune his guitar to the rhythm. He said, How often do folk singers get to actually play with the trains that they write about?. And with this song, about being lonely, he wrote it in response to visiting Biltmore, when he was originally bothered by the ostentatiousness of it all. All the space! All the empty!
