Biography by Craig Harris. Technically brilliant Spanish guitarist who worked with top flamenco artists and introduced countless innovations within the field.

The acoustic guitar trio of John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, and Paco DeLucia can always be relied upon to create quiet but fiery music. The three virtuosos always sound restrained and tasteful (yet inwardly explosive) when they play together.

Paco de Lucia released many albums of flamenco and classical guitar music. Through his vast discography, he showed a new way of understanding the flamenco music and he as also turned his music and his form of playing guitar to a level comparable to that of modern jazz musicians. The Guitar Trio" was released in 1996 and has nine tracks. This new album is certainly a collaborative effort. Except for Luis Bonfa's and Antonio Maria's classic song "Manh De Carnaval", all tracks are original compositions from each guitarist.

Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer and producer. A leading proponent of the new flamenco style, he helped legitimize flamenco among the establishment in Spain, and was one of the first flamenco guitarists to cross over successfully into other genres of music such as classical and jazz.

Paco de Lucía (December 21, 1947 – February 25, 2014), whose full name was Francisco Gustavo Sánchez Gomes, was a Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer and producer, born in Algeciras, a city near the far southern point of Spain in the province of Cádiz. A leading proponent of the New Flamenco style, he helped legitimize flamenco among the establishment in Spain, and was one of the first flamenco guitarists to have successfully crossed over into other genres of music such as classical and jazz.

No guitarist has done more to popularize modern flamenco guitar than Paco de Lucia has. A child prodigy, the gifted Spaniard mastered traditional flamenco techniques by his mid-teens and went on to incorporate elements of jazz, salsa and bossa nova into flamenco’s deep roots. His work with jazz greats John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, and Larry Coryell at the turn of the ’80s – especially on the legendary album, Friday Night in San Francisco – remains essential for any student of acoustic guitar.
