Pianist Eddie Palmieri, an innovative part of the Latin jazz and salsa scenes since the late '50s, mixes together a variety of idioms on this intriguing set. He uses a number of horns (including two or three trombones), an expanded rhythm section, occasional strings, and (on six of the 11 selections) a vocal group.

His energy level is incredible, whether it is salsa classics or his arrangements that can lift the listeners spirits into the stratosphere.

Palmieri won two Grammys for the recordings of Palo Pa' Rumba and Solito. He also recorded the album La Verdad (The Truth) with salsa singer Tony Vega in 1987. The next year, his brother Charlie died suddenly. In 1998, Palmieri received an honorary doctorate from the Berklee College of Music. La Perfecta II (Concord, 2002).
